90s Style Sheer Dress Trend - A Glamorous Shimmering Summer Maxi

It’s no secret that sheer dresses have been all the rave recently, from celebrities flaunting designer looks on the red carpet (think Dua Lipa at the recent LA Barbie premier, or Zoë Kravitz at the 2022 Met Gala) to more casual approach seen on our Instagram feeds - the naked dress has seen a great comeback, and I’m here for it!

This particular orange sheer maxi sequin embellished dress I got to wear on my recent birthday trip to Santorini got me hooked the moment I saw it! This shade of orange makes it a perfect summer dress, especially suited for matching those gorgeous sunsets in the evenings. The glittery sheer material adds a touch of glamour - which is all I could ask for when planning my holiday evening outfits.

Styling a sheer dress

There is a great playful element when it comes to styling sheer dresses which I absolutely love. Sheerness is a quality that opens up so many possibilities for layering underneath. You could opt for a more covered-up look with a simple slip dress beneath (same colour as the dress or a whimsy contrasting colour might be fun?). How about a nude slip to match your skin tone? Maybe you want to show off a stylish bodysuit or a lingerie set? You might be more daring and opt for a risque look while keeping the layers below minimal. Or, like me, you could opt for a bikini - which comes in especially handy on holidays for those post-beach day vibes.

I’ve tried a lot of combinations with this dress - and the bikini version came on top. I liked that the bikini was contrasting and therefore gave the look more interest. I also liked that the bikini itself was of contrasting colours - black with white trims. This combination gave the outfit an edge and a hint of effortless cool - which I always welcome when styling a look.
